Static Airline Routes API for Developers and Businesses

Static Airline Routes API for Developers and Businesses

Looking for flight data on operating airline routes, globally? Aviation Edge Routes API provides flight-by-flight data in JSON format via REST API.

Aviation Edge Routes API provides B2B Level solutions with its global data on operating airline routes. The API is a JSON REST API that provides static data with a breakdown of all requested flights in the output. It is possible to filter the routes to a certain airline, departure or arrival airport, flight number, and more. This way, the API returns the exact routes for you or your users on the platform you build. Let’s get into the details and highlights of the data with example input, output, and filter information. If all sounds good, it only takes a minute to get started!

What the Static Routes API does is that it returns you a flight-by-flight output for routes between Airport A and B. Here are some of the most popular use-cases for the API:

Virtual maps. The raw data of the API makes it possible to build virtual maps of which airline operates in which destinations and routes. Compare airlines and offer your clients platforms where they can view possible routes for their destinations of interest.

Get your clients to choose flights. Looking to build a mobile app or website on flight selection? Integrate the Routes API to build a feature where your clients can choose available routes off the list (or the map) based on the departure and arrival airport they pick and view the departure/arrival times.

Get flight details. Expand the information you display on your mobile app or website. When your clients choose a flight, display terminal, gate, aircraft details, and more. Become an all-in-one platform for viewing flight details.

Build charts, visuals, and reports. The Routes API data is useful for making a comparison between airports or airlines and keeping track of airway traffic. Find out which airline flies more frequently to certain destinations or regions, or which airport has more traffic within the same city, country, or region.

Research. Use the data to determine the busy hours in airports based on the departure/arrival times provided for each flight in the response. Calculate airline and passenger average and analyze the market.

Airline Routes API Developer Information

The Global Routes API is a JSON REST API with high response rates at around 0.3 ms per API call. It is compatible with all leading SDKs for seamless integration. You can request the complete airline routes database in one call or filter the data based on airline, departure or arrival airport, flight number, airplane, and more. This means that you can also request a specific airline’s routes, complete routes from or to a certain airport, or you can get just one flight you are interested in based on its flight number.

Tip: The number of routes that return in the response is irrelevant. A successful API call request will always consume only 1 API call out of your API call limit which renews every month. There are no limits to requests per second or minute either. Strong APIs for strong projects!

The details for each flight in the output are:

  • Airport: Departure and arrival airport IATA and ICAO codes
  • Terminal: The most-popular terminal of the departure and arrival airports for that flight
  • Flight times: Originally scheduled departure and arrival times
  • Airline: IATA and ICAO codes of the operating airline
  • Flight: Flight number in “1234” format (without the airline code at the front) and codeshares (if any)
  • Aircraft: Registration number of the aircraft

Endpoints for the Routes API

Here’s how the endpoints look like to filter the database and get the exact data you are looking for:

Filters to get routes from certain airports, airlines, or flights:

GET http://aviation-edge.com/v2/public/routes?key=[API_KEY]&departureIata=OTP

GET http://aviation-edge.com/v2/public/routes?key=[API_KEY]&departureIcao=LROP

GET http://aviation-edge.com/v2/public/routes?key=[API_KEY]&airlineIata=0B

GET http://aviation-edge.com/v2/public/routes?key=[API_KEY]&airlineIcao=BMS

GET http://aviation-edge.com/v2/public/routes?key=[API_KEY]&flightNumber=101

Filter to get a specific route:

GET http://aviation-edge.com/v2/public/routes?key=[API_KEY]&departureIata=OTP&departureIcao=LROP&airlineIata=0B&airlineIcao=BMS&flightNumber=101

The APIs are super easy to get accustomed to. If you don’t have any previous experience with APIs, or looking to experiment a bit, test the API a few times and you are good to go! For anything else, contact the team for support.

Combine! One of the core features of our APIs is that you get access to our complete list of APIs with a single key, with no limits! In other words, you can maximize the details by implementing multiple APIs. Each of our APIs focuses on a different set of data, so your project can get as rich in data as you want. For example, use the Airplanes API that has the “aircraft registration number” as the common piece of data with the Routes API. Except the Airplanes API includes much more detailed information on airplanes such as model codes, product line, brand, registry date, owner, engine type, and more.

Interested so far? It only takes a minute to get an API key here and get started. We have huge discounts for the first month, starting at as low as $7, to make sure our clients can test the data with all Premium features included. You can cancel, upgrade or downgrade your plan anytime, so no commitments at all. Just make some tests, see if you like the data, and decide how you want to go with your subscription.
